However, if you do not already have an active phone and/or broadband connection there is a connection fee (minimum connection fee $63). If a technician is dispatched to the property or exchange in order to complete the connection there may be further charges up to $263.53. Should additional non-standard work be required to complete your connection, a quote will be provided. If a charge is applicable, this will appear on your first bill.
What speeds can I expect from a ADSL broadband connection?
Industry average speeds for ADSL at peak times (source MBNZ Autumn Edition 2022) are download 8Mbps / upload 0.7Mbps. You may experience a higher or lower speed than this.
What might influence my broadband speed?
Factors that may influence your speed include the device you are using and its capabilities, your operating system and web-browser, if you’re connecting wirelessly to your router, and the number of devices connecting via WiFi. You will need to supply your own router. Your router must meet the specifications for a router compatible with Trustpower’s ADSL service. These specifications are available here. Using a non-compatible router means you may not be capable of receiving the stated speeds for Trustpower’s ADSL service.

Factors that may influence your speed include:
- the device you are using and its capabilities

- if you’re connecting wirelessly to your router, and the number of devices connecting via WiFi.
As wireless broadband plans use a wireless connection, then factors such as:
- the distance you are from a cell tower
- the network capability and the overall use of that cell tower by other consumers can impact the speed experienced.
For wireless broadband, you must use the router supplied by Trustpower. This router is capable of providing the estimated peak time average speeds, subject to the factors described above.

If you use all your base plan data, to keep you online you will have a 10GB extra data pack automatically added and charged to your account. There is only one automatic data pack available to be added each billing cycle.
If you use all your base plan data as well as this additional automatic 10GB data pack, your broadband service will stop unless you top up manually. You can choose to add up to 4 additional manual 10GB data packs.
Once your full monthly data allowance has been consumed the maximum speeds for your wireless broadband plan will be reduced to 5Mbps until your monthly plan renewal date. (You may experience speeds lower than this due to other factors that affect Wireless broadband speeds).
Where your maximum speeds have been reduced, you will still be able to use your wireless broadband but you may experience some degradations (such as lower video resolution) when watching video, streaming or loading images.
