Significant changes in the energy and utility retailing markets are the drivers - electrification and decarbonisation, decentralised energy, digital trends in service provision, and utilities convergence are all shaking up traditional operating models. We think it is an exciting time to be a part of these changes and opportunities.
One thing that is being explored is the possible sale of our retail business. There has been no decision made on whether to sell or not, and that can only be considered after formal offers have been received. The process is expected to take several months. Until we progress through the strategic review and the outcomes become clearer, we really don’t know what the long- term impacts could be or whether there may be changes for the business that might affect those employed here.
One of our key values is people, so we want to be upfront with anyone considering employment at Trustpower so that you understand the situation. We are doing our best to make sure everyone is well informed around what is happening as new information becomes available, so that they can make the right choices for themselves.
Knowing this, it’s important that you think about the kind of environment you like to work in and the sort of work you like to do. If you prefer to work in a very stable organisation, we probably aren’t the right fit for you at this time. If, on the other hand, you like change and dynamic work situations, knowing there is a risk as well as a reward there, we are probably a better match.
We think Trustpower is an amazing place to work, but we respect that different situations suit different people – so if you have questions as you work through the process, please just ask and we will be happy to provide you with the clarity you need to make the right decision for you.
If the decision is made to sell the retail business – and no decision has been made as yet – a key consideration will be any potential impact on our people. What the future looks like depends on who a buyer may be, what their current capabilities are, and what they envisage for the business. Until we go through this process, we won’t know if there will be any impact. We realise this creates uncertainty, so we’re committed to keeping you fully informed and supported. It’s important to remember that our people are a valuable part of our business and know it well, so prospective buyers will see the value in retaining our team members and their capabilities should we choose to sell.
