The Timoru group have carried out a series of events that have raised awareness of men’s health and substantial funds in the process. A huge congratulations to this team of volunteers for investing so much time, energy and passion into this very real cause.
The Awards were announced and presented on Tuesday 16 July at a function at the Timaru District Council, council chambers.
For winning the Supreme Award, Timoru received a framed certificate, a trophy and $1,500 prize money. Timoru now has the opportunity to represent the district at the 2013 TrustPower National Community Awards, which are being held in the Invercargill and Southland region in March 2014.
In total, TrustPower has given away over $5,000 to various community groups through tonight’s Awards.
Timaru District Mayor Janie Annear says Timoru’s campaign does a fabulous job of highlighting some very real issues for this region.
“The Timoru group have carried out a series of events that have raised awareness of men’s health and substantial funds in the process. A huge congratulations to this team of volunteers for investing so much time, energy and passion into this very real cause,” says Mayor Annear.
TrustPower Community Relations Representative Jess Somerville says it’s amazing what a thin line of facial hair on a group in men can achieve.
“What started as a couple of great Movember’s in Timaru has grown to a significant campaign that highlights the importance of men’s health.
“Through fundraising activities and events such as the ‘Undie 700’, Bay in the Bay and the Masquerade ball this group of volunteers are raising funds for a very worthwhile cause and more importantly awareness. In 2012 alone an epic $31,000 was raised for in the name of men’s health.
“This creative group have invested many hours into highlighting an issue that is often not spoken about and we congratulate them on this Award.
“Also a big thanks to everyone who entered a group for the Community Awards,” says Miss Somerville.
The competition for this year’s TrustPower Timaru District Community Awards was strong with 34 groups entered for the Awards.
