Paul Ridley-Smith LLB, MBA (Columbia)
Paul joined the Board in January 2016 as chair. He is a senior executive at Morrison & Co, the manager of Infratil, Trustpower’s largest shareholder. Paul first joined Morrison & Co in 1998, rejoining in 2015 after 4 years as general counsel at Contact Energy. He has been a director of various Infratil group companies, including Wellington International Airport and iSite Media. He is currently an independent director of listed resthome operator, Arvida Group.
Paul has a Bachelor of Laws from Victoria University and a Masters of Business Administration from Columbia University.
Geoff Swier MCom (ECON)
Geoff joined the Board in 2007 and is Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee. Geoff has over 25 years of experience in micro-economic reform notably in the establishment of competitive energy markets and privatisation in Australia, New Zealand and Asia; and in the development of water industries in Australia. He is a Director of Tilt Renewables Australia Pty Ltd and Melbourne based consulting firm Farrier Swier Consulting. His past roles include being a Member of the Australian Energy Regulator and Associate Member of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. Geoff holds a Master of Commerce from Auckland University.
Richard Aitken BE (HONS), M.Eng.Sc (Syd), ONZM, Dist FIPENZ
Richard has been a Director since 2010. He brings extensive experience in engineering project management and associated contractual matters, for major power and water infrastructure projects. Up until April 2017, Richard was Executive Chair of the Beca Group, having previously been the Beca Group Chief Executive Officer, and having been with Beca for over 40 years. He holds a Master of Engineering Science and a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) from Sydney University.
Sam Knowles MSc (HONS)
Sam joined the Board in 2007, bringing significant experience in the banking industry. He has been a senior manager for trading banks in New Zealand and Australia, specialising in areas including strategic planning, retail services, marketing, and business development. Sam is the former Chief Executive of Kiwibank and is now a Professional Director. He holds a Master of Science (Honours) from Canterbury University.
Alan Bickers MNZM, JP, BE, GDipBS, CFInstD, DistFIPENZ, FAMINZ
Alan was appointed to the Board in September 2014. He has a long history of governance in private companies, Government Boards and Crown Entities, and not for profit organisations. He is a civil engineer with a particular interest in renewable generation of electricity and sustainable management of the environment. He was formerly Chief Executive of Tauranga City Council and is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors and other professional organisations.
Susan Peterson BCom, LLB
Susan is currently an Independent Director on, NZX and ASX listed companies Xero Limited and Vista Group International Limited and NZX listed companies Property for Industry Limited and ASB Bank Limited. Susan is also an Independent Director on the Board of The New Zealand Merino Company Limited and a Chairman/Shareholder in Organic Initiative Limited. Susan is a Member of the NZ Markets Disciplinary Tribunal. Susan’s earlier career was in law and financial services where she held a number of senior executive roles at ANZ. Susan has been an independent director of Trustpower since 27 August 2015.
Kevin Baker Chief Financial Officer of H.R.L. Morrison & Co; Investment and Asset Management Committees Member
Kevin is CFO of Morrison & Co and a member of Morrison & Co’s Investment and Asset Management Committees. He was formerly CFO of Infratil. In addition to playing an active role in the assessment and financing of new investments, he is responsible for financial reporting, treasury and taxation, and aspects of governance for Morrison & Co investment mandates.
Prior to joining Morrison & Co in 2005, Kevin had considerable energy sector experience as CFO of NGC Holdings.
Kevin is on the board of several Infratil investments including as Chairman of NZ Bus, and a director of CDC. He has been a director of Lumo Energy / Infratil Energy Australia, Metlifecare, and Wellington International Airport. Kevin was for 6 years a member of the New Zealand Market Disciplinary Tribunal, retiring from that position on 31 March 2018.
