A cheque for $30,000 was presented to school principal Ms Fione Love at a ceremony at the school on Wednesday September 17, comprising $15,000 each from the Snowtown Lend-a-Hand Foundation and Snowtown Wind Farm developer Trustpower.
A further $40,000 was presented to the school by the Snowtown Progress Association, with the balance of the $90,000-plus project coming from the school.
Ms Love said the sub-surface irrigation project would transform the oval from a hard, cracked and weed infested area in summer and enable the school to resume holding its annual sport day there.
“We haven’t been able to water it and it became unuseable,” Ms Love said. “The weeds took over. This will make an enormous difference to the school, enabling many activities to take place on the oval as well as being available for community use.”
She said it would also provide a more attractive entrance to Snowtown on the Brinkworth-Blythe road.
The scheme will use recycled water from a local dam following work by Snowtown Progress Association to upgrade a pump and lay pipes linking the dam to the school.
