These wonderful musos pop up all over the scene. They are part of nearly every community event there is, while also participating in national competition. They are a bright beacon for Whakatāne and they put this wonderful community on the map.
EBOP Brass have won the Supreme Award at the annual Trustpower Whakatāne District Community Awards.
The Awards were announced and presented tonight (Monday 1 August) at a function at The Little Theatre, Whakatāne.
For winning the Supreme Award, EBOP Brass received a framed certificate, a trophy and $1,500 prize money. EBOP Brass now have the opportunity to represent the district at the 2016 Trustpower National Community Awards, which are being held in Rotorua in March 2017.
In total, Trustpower has presented over $5,000 to various community groups through tonight’s Awards.
Trustpower Community Relations Representative Kathlene Cook says it is a pleasure to acknowledge such an incredible voluntary group, giving spirit, culture and life to the Whakatāne community.
“These wonderful musos pop up all over the scene. They are part of nearly every community event there is, while also participating in national competition. They are a bright beacon for Whakatāne and they put this wonderful community on the map.
A crazy 800 hours if given every month by these volunteers – practicing, tutoring, fundraising, performing and running the club. They are providing an invaluable service for our youth, giving them something creative and challenging to be a part of. They are helping to grow life-long passions and they are bringing that extra oomph to any event around town and afar. We can’t wait to have them along at our nation event with us”, says Kathlene.
“The Whakatāne District is home to a large number of voluntary and community based groups and organisations who work hard to make this district a great place to live. The Trustpower Community Awards highlight and celebrate the huge contribution of these voluntary groups and, thanks to the people who entered these groups, we are able to host the region’s biggest celebration for voluntary groups that highlights their accomplishments, successes and services that these groups provide to their community,” says Kathlene.
