Bailey Dudley-Russell has been named as the winner of the Trustpower Taupō District Youth Community Spirit Award.

 

The Award will be presented at the Trustpower Taupō District Community Awards held on Monday 8 September at the Great Lake Centre, Taupō.   

 

Run in partnership with the Taupō District Council, the Trustpower Youth Community Spirit Award recognises secondary school students’ service to their school and the community. 

 

Local high schools were asked to recommend one student to be considered for the Award. The finalist for this award was Hannah Fletcher from Taupō Nui A Tia College. 

 

To be considered for the Trustpower Youth Community Spirit Award students had to have given service to school or community projects, treated others with care and respect and been a good ambassador for the school and the Taupō District.

 

Trustpower Community Relations Representative Kathlene Cook says Bailey is a respectful student who is involved in school activities as well as the community and is a fantastic advocate for preventing bullying in schools also.

 

“Bailey is an incredible ambassador for the youth of the Taupō District. He is a school leader at Tongariro School, a pool life guard and a member of the Turangi Volunteer Fire Brigade.

 

He is also part of the Tongariro School Service Academy and intends to further his military pursuits buy enlisting for the New Zealand Army after school. He has a passion to  protect others from harm,” says Miss Cook.

 

For winning the Award, Bailey will receive a framed certificate and $500 prize money, with an additional $250 being given to a community group or organisation of his choice. This community group will be announced at the Awards on Monday night.
