The Community Awards highlight and celebrate the huge contribution of these voluntary groups and we are looking forward to celebrating the accomplishments, successes and services that these groups provide to their community.

Entries for the TrustPower Whakatane District Community Awards closed on Friday 28 June. The TrustPower Whakatane District Community Awards, which recognise and reward voluntary groups for the outstanding contribution they make to the local community, are run in partnership with the Whakatane District Council.

TrustPower Community Relations Coordinator Suzi Luff says she is excited to be celebrating so many generous, talented, resourceful and hard working volunteers through this year’s TrustPower Community Awards.

“The Whakatane District is home to a large number of voluntary and community based groups and organisations who work hard to make the Whakatane District a great place to live. The Community Awards highlight and celebrate the huge contribution of these voluntary groups and we are looking forward to celebrating the accomplishments, successes and services that these groups provide to their community.

A huge ‘thanks’ must also go to the people who entered these wonderful voluntary groups as well,” says Suzi.

The Awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Education and Child/Youth Development. The category winners receive $500 and runners-up receive $250.

The Supreme Winner will take home $1,500, a trophy, framed certificate and an all-expenses paid trip to the TrustPower National Community Awards. The 2013 TrustPower National Community Awards will be held in the Invercargill and Southland regions in March 2014.

The entries for the TrustPower Whakatane District Community Awards are currently being prepared for judging. The TrustPower Whakatane District Community Awards will be announced and presented at a function on Tuesday 27 August, to which all entered organisations as well as those that entered groups will be invited.
