I would encourage all voluntary groups to be involved in the TrustPower Community Awards. Like me, you will be inspired by what you see.
Tasman District Mayor Richard Kempthorne

Entries for the TrustPower Nelson Tasman Community Awards open on Monday 18 March. The Awards, which are run in partnership with the Nelson City Council and Tasman District Council, are open to all voluntary groups and organisations working to make their communities a better place to live. This year more than $6,000 is up for grabs.

Anyone can enter a voluntary group or organisation for the TrustPower Nelson Tasman Community Awards – voluntary groups and organisations can even enter themselves. Last year 134 groups were entered for the TrustPower Nelson Tasman Community Awards.

TrustPower Community Relations Representative Teresa Partridge believes this proves that there are many wonderful voluntary groups out there who deserve recognition.

“Nelson and Tasman are both community-minded districts that have an impressive volunteering culture. Many activities, events, projects, programmes, sports, and services are provided thanks to the region’s hard working volunteers.

Now you have the chance to say ‘thank you’ to these volunteers who work hard to improve the community – just by filling out an entry form. It takes just a few minutes of your time to enter a voluntary group but it will make a real difference to the volunteers you are recognising,” says Mrs Partridge.

Tasman District Mayor Richard Kempthorne says the TrustPower Community Awards are a marvellous opportunity to recognise the volunteer contribution of the many organisations and individuals in our region.

“We would not be able to function as a community without the generous voluntary efforts that are made. I would encourage all voluntary groups to be involved in the TrustPower Community Awards. Like me, you will be inspired by what you see,” says Mayor Richard.

Nelson City Mayor Aldo Miccio agrees saying the awards are a fitting tribute to the many dedicated volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to benefit our region.

“It is their efforts and commitment to community which ultimately make Nelson a great place to live,” says Mayor Miccio.

Entry Forms for the TrustPower Community Awards are available from the Council offices or service centres or can be completed online by clicking here. Entry Forms can also be received by calling Teresa Partridge on 0800 87 11 11.

The awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Educational and Child/Youth Development. Category winners receive $500, runners-up receive $250 and the Supreme Winner will take home $1,500 and an all-expenses paid trip to the 2013 TrustPower National Community Awards. Last year’s TrustPower Nelson Tasman Community Awards Supreme Winner was Mapua Easter Fair Organising Committee.

Entries for the TrustPower Nelson Tasman Community Awards close at 5pm on Friday 17 May 2013.
