The Rotorua District is home to a large number of voluntary and community based groups and organisations who work hard to make the Rotorua District a great place to live and this is reflected in the number of entries we have received for this year’s Awards.

Entries for the TrustPower Spirit of Rotorua Awards closed on Friday 16 August. The TrustPower Spirit of Rotorua Awards, which recognise and reward voluntary groups for the outstanding contribution they make to the local community, are run in partnership with the Rotorua District Council and supported by MoreFM Rotorua.

TrustPower Community Relations Coordinator Suzi Luff says she was blown away by the many volunteer groups working in the Rotorua area and is excited to be celebrating so many generous, talented, resourceful and hard-working volunteers through this year’s TrustPower Spirit of Rotorua Awards.

“The Rotorua District is home to a large number of voluntary and community based groups and organisations who work hard to make the Rotorua District a great place to live and this is reflected in the number of entries we have received for this year’s Awards. The TrustPower Spirit of Rotorua Awards highlight and acknowledge the huge contribution of these voluntary groups and we are looking forward to celebrating the accomplishments, successes and services that these groups contribute to their community.

A huge ‘thanks’ must also go to the people who entered these wonderful voluntary groups as well – you were part of this record-breaking effort!” says Suzi.

The Awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Education and Child/Youth Development. The category winners receive $500 and runners-up receive $250.

The Supreme Winner will take home $1,500, a trophy, framed certificate and an all-expenses paid trip to the TrustPower National Community Awards. The 2013 TrustPower National Community Awards will be held in the Invercargill and Southland regions in March 2014.

Judging of the entries has taken place for the TrustPower Spirit of Rotorua Awards. The TrustPower Spirit of Rotorua Awards will be presented at a function on Monday 21 October, to which all entered organisations as well as those that entered groups have been invited.
