It’s a strong reflection of what’s happening out there in the community and of people supporting one another.
Entries for the TrustPower Palmerston North Community Awards closed on Wednesday 31 July. The TrustPower Palmerston North Community Awards, which recognise and reward voluntary groups for the outstanding contribution they make to the local community, are run in partnership with the Palmerston North City Council.
TrustPower Community Relations Coordinator Suzi Luff says she is excited to be celebrating so many generous, resourceful and hardworking volunteers through this year’s TrustPower Community Awards.
“Palmerston North has a diverse, active and energised community and a big part of this is down to the voluntary groups providing so much for the city. Palmerston North is home to a large number of community-based groups and organisations who work hard to make Palmerston North a great place to live and so we are very happy with this year’s result. It’s a strong reflection of what’s happening out there in the community and of people supporting one another.
We are looking forward to celebrating the accomplishments, successes and services that these groups provide to the Palmerston North community at the TrustPower Community Awards function, which will highlight and celebrate the huge contribution these voluntary groups make.
A huge ‘thanks’ must also go to the people who entered these wonderful voluntary groups as well. And a special thanks goes to Norelle Ward and her team from the Volunteer Resource Centre – Manawatu and Districts, who through their stand, encouraged people to get involved,” says Suzi.
The Awards cover five categories; Heritage and Environment, Health and Wellbeing, Arts and Culture, Sport and Leisure, and Education and Child/Youth Development. The category winners receive $500 and runners-up receive $250.
The Supreme Winner will take home $1,500, a trophy, framed certificate and an all-expenses paid trip to the TrustPower National Community Awards. The 2013 TrustPower National Community Awards will be held in the Invercargill and Southland regions in March 2014.
The TrustPower Palmerston North Community Awards will be announced and presented at a function on Thursday, 26 September, to which all entered organisations as well as those that entered groups will be invited.
Media are invited to attend this function also. A media advisory will be issued later today with further details.
