Vince Hawksworth - Chief Executive

Born in the UK, Vince studied Mining Engineering at Trent Polytechnic in Nottingham and joined British Coal working in underground coal mines. In 1993 Vince and his family moved to New Zealand. In 1995, Vince joined the Electricity Corporation of New Zealand (ECNZ) as Production Manager at Huntly Power Station before becoming General Manager Generation when Genesis Energy was formed in 1999. In 2002 he became General Manager Retail of Genesis Energy and four years later Vince became CEO of Hydro Tasmania.

 

Robert Farron - Chief Financial Officer

Orignally from Palmerston North, Robert was educated at Palmerston North Boys High School and later graduated from Massey University with a BBS majoring in Accounting & Finance. He is also a member of the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants and a certified member of the Institute of Finance Professionals New Zealand Inc. Robert commenced his business career with Price Waterhouse and from there moved in to Corporate Banking with The National Bank of New Zealand for six years focusing primarily on financing companies in the food, agriculture and energy sectors. Subsequently, Robert joined AsiaPower Developments Ltd and was involved in the development and financing of geothermal power projects in Indonesia pre and post The Asian Financial Crisis. Prior to joining TrustPower, Robert worked for ANZ firstly heading up the Utilities & Infrastructure specialisation within its Institutional Banking Group and secondly managing ANZ's Central Region Corporate Banking Business including a lending portfolio of approximately NZD 750m and 17 frontline staff.
 

 

Chris O'Hara - Divisional Manager Retail 

Chris joined TrustPower in 1999, just prior to the launch of mass-market competition. Previous roles at TrustPower have included Commercial Sales Manager, National Sales Manager and Energy Division Sales Manager. Born in Auckland, Chris has lived in many parts of New Zealand as well as spending five years in the USA. Chris was educated in Upper Hutt, and later gained a degree in Agricultural Science from Massey University. His career has included a number of roles in forestry and farm management, consulting in animal nutrition, sales and marketing and general management in the corporate sector, and ownership and management of a manufacturing company.
 

 

Mike Kedian - Generation Manager

Originally from South Africa, Mike has a Masters in Engineering from Natal University, an MBA from Waikato University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Professional Engineers of New Zealand. Prior to coming to New Zealand in 1988, Mike worked in the oil and sugar industries in South Africa and America as well as lecturing at University. Since his arrival in New Zealand, Mike has held various roles within the hydro generation industry, and has worked with the Waikato, Waitaki and Manapouri schemes during the last fifteen years. Mike has a particular interest in renewable generation.

 

Therese Thorn - Trading and Risk  Manager

A 5th generation New Zealander, born and educated in Whangarei, Therese gained her Honours degree in Chemical and Material Engineering at Auckland University. She has been with TrustPower since 1993, joining at the beginning of the electricity reforms. Originally an analyst, Therese has since held a variety of different roles covering various aspects of electricity generation, distribution and retailing, her particular forte being spot market risk management. As Trading and Risk Manager Therese oversees key areas of energy purchasing, hedge management and reconciliation. During her time with TrustPower, Therese has developed a strong working understanding of price volatility drivers, and of constraints issues on the periphery of the grid, where TrustPower has a significant customer base.

 

Peter Calderwood - Strategic Business Development Manager

Peter is a registered engineer (Auckland University, First Class Honours) with a Master of Engineering. Born in Auckland and educated at Auckland Grammar School, he is a member of the Institute of Professional Engineers of New Zealand. Peter joined the Tauranga Electric Power Board in 1987 and became its Operations Manager the following year. In 1991 Peter accepted the role as Network Manager for TEPB, which later became TrustPower. He was TrustPower's Network Manager prior to taking on his present role.

 

Karen Boyte - Human Resource Manager

Born in Pahiatua, Karen has a Master of Business Studies (Hons) in Human Resource Management , a Bachelor in Business Studies (HR), both from Massey University, a Diploma in Management (NZIM), and a New Zealand Diploma in Business Studies. Her career includes HR, Training and Development, Employment Relations, Performance Improvement and Organisational Development roles in the forestry and timber processing industries and tertiary sector. Karen has also lectured in Human Resources Management, Organisation Development and Marketing. She is a professional member of the Human Resource Institute of New Zealand (MHRINZ). Karen joined TrustPower in 2003 .

 

Nelson Tkatch - Chief Information Officer

Originally from Canada, Nelson joined TrustPower in early 2009. After graduating from McGill University with a Bachelor of Commerce specialising in Computers & Systems he has accumulated a unique blend of I.S. best practice experience through successively more responsible positions within and consulting to diverse industries. Nelson is a former principal with KPMG Management Consulting and operated his own successful consulting agency, eSuccess Strategies. His knowledge and skills also reflect his experience working in Canada, the United States as well as New Zealand with firms such as TransCanada PipeLines, Fletcher Construction (NZ) and several leading Canadian financial institutions. A former member of the Conference Board of Canada CIO Forum and a founding member of the CIO Association of British Columbia, Nelson holds several industry designations including the Canadian Information Processing Society’s ISP and CGEIT from the Information Systems Audit and Control Association. He is currently completing his Masters in Information Systems Management through the University of Liverpool’s online program, and is also active in the community.
