Mahinerangi Wind Farm Resource Consent

The Mahinerangi Wind Farm ('MWF') is located approximately 50 km west of Dunedin and to the north of Lake Mahinerangi.

In June 2006, TrustPower lodged resource consent applications, including an Assessment of Effects on the Environment ('AEE'), with the Clutha District Council ('CDC'), Dunedin City Council ('DCC') and Otago Regional Council ('ORC') for all consents required under the Resource Management Act 1991 ('RMA') for a proposed 300MW wind farm.

In September 2006, TrustPower announced that it was reducing the area of the proposed MWF by removing the land owned by the DCC. Given this revision, a replacement resource consent application (hereafter referred to as the revised application documentation) was lodged with the appropriate Councils in December 2006.

The consents sought for the revised proposal include a discretionary activity land use consent from the CDC and land use consents, water permits and discharge permits required from the ORC. The ORC consents are for controlled, restricted discretionary or discretionary activities which principally relate to construction activities.
