What is the TrustPower Youth Community Spirit Award?
The TrustPower Youth Community Spirit Award is a new initiative aimed at recognising secondary school students’ service to school and the community.
The Youth Community Spirit Award is run alongside the existing TrustPower Community Awards of which TrustPower runs 24 throughout New Zealand. These Community Awards recognise and reward voluntary groups and organisations in the community. The TrustPower Community Awards and the TrustPower Youth Community Spirit Award are run in partnership with local Councils.
Who is eligible for the TrustPower Youth Community Spirit Award?
The TrustPower Youth Community Spirit Award is open to all year 13 students who have:
• Contributed widely as a student to their college/school
• Developed good relationships, treating others with respect and care
• Given service to school or community projects
• Been a good ambassador for the college/school and the region
How are students nominated for the Award?
Each year TrustPower invites each secondary school/college in the respective regions to recommend one year 13 student from that school to receive the TrustPower Youth Community Spirit Award. The recommended students then either appear in person before the Community Awards judging panel or write an essay to present to the panel (dependent on the region). The judging panel then decides on the TrustPower Youth Community Spirit Award recipient.
What does the recipient of the Youth Community Spirit Award receive?
The winner of the TrustPower Youth Community Spirit Award will receive a framed certificate and $500 prize money. The prize money is to be divided with $250 going to the student personally and $250 being given to a community group or organisation of the student’s choice.
The winning student will be presented with their Award at the TrustPower Community Awards in each area as well as at a school assembly.
